Charley A. BAKER, 83, native of Jefferson County, died at 12:45 a.m. today at the Jefferson County Hospital where he had been a patient the past two weeks.
Last rites will be Tuesday at the Raymond Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Charley A. BAKER was born Aug. 4 (sic - Aug. 24), 1888, on a farm seven miles north of Fairfield. He was the son of George P. and Asenath ROSS BAKER. He had lived all his life in Jefferson County.
His marriage to Nellie Myrtle TRAIL took place Dec. 25, 1912, at the home of the bride. He farmed until 1955 when they moved to Fairfield. The home is at 50 N. Fifth. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
In addition to his widow he is survived by one brother, Frank, Packwood. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
The original BAKER home for many years was known as the Baker post office and served the rural community surrounding it. It was located on what is now Highway 1.
The post office was closed when rural free delivery was inaugurated by the postal department.
