Mrs. Mary C. AXLINE, a resident of this city for nearly 25 years, died at her home here Monday afternoon quite unexpectedly. She had been in declining health, a sufferer from consumption for several years, but her condition was not considered critical. Taken somewhat worse on Sunday, she was considerably better Monday and was able to dress herself and sit in her chair until a short time before her death. Mrs. AXLINE was born in Louden (sic - Loudoun) county, Virginia, September 11th, 1820. She removed at an early age to Kentucky, and in that state in 1837 was married to Jacob AXLINE. The young couple removed to Missouri in 1855, and lived there during all the troublous times of the war.-- Their sympathies were with the north in the struggle against slavery, and for an honest expression of their opinions they were driven from their homes and forced to take refuge in Kansas City. When the war broke out the father and eldest son took up arms in defense of their country, and in 1864 the former was assassinated by the cowardly bushwhackers which overran the state. The mother came to Fairfield in 1865 with her family, and has since resided here. Her life was one of many struggles and hardships, but she was a courageous woman, and her energy and industry enabled her to rear and educate her children and maintain an honored place in society. Mrs. AXLINE was the mother of seven sons, three of whom are now living. For more than 40 years she was a member of the Christian church. She was an excellent woman, and those who have known her best during her residence in this city will join with the family in mourning her loss. The funeral will occur tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, services being held at the Christian church.
