MRS. ATWOOD, BIRMINGHAM, DIED TODAY
Former resident of Jefferson county; funeral Monday

Mrs. W. T. ATWOOD, 76, former resident of Jefferson county, passed away at the Jefferson county hospital this morning at 5:00 a.m. Her death came after a nine weeks illness of pneumonia and heart trouble.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian church in Birmingham in charge of Rev. H. C. Irvine. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery at Fairfield.

She was born Loressa Jane WILSON August 27, 1866, in Peoria county, Illinois. She was united in marriage to Wyllie T. ATWOOD March 21, 1894, near Chatswortch (sic), Ill.

They moved to Jefferson county several years ago and lived on a farm south of Fairfield. In recent years they moved to the Birmingham community. She was a member of the United Presbyterian church in Piper City, Ill. She had her membership transferred to the Presbyterian church in Fairfield and later to the church in Birmingham. Before she was married Mrs. ATWOOD was a rural school teacher in Illinois.

Besides her husband, she is survived by five children, Irwin, Packwood; Harold, Glasgow; Wilson, Birmingham; Alice ATWOOD, Washington, D. C. and Mrs. Evelyn CLAMPITT, Johnson Station, Iowa. She is also survived by two brothers, S. M. WILSON, Chicago; Irwin WILSON, Bedford, Iowa; and one sister, Mrs. H. A. MITCHELL, Piper City, Ill.; and 10 grandchildren.

One daughter, Mrs. Dorothy BALDWIN and two sisters preceded her in death.

When the daughter passed away in 1935 she left twin boys, Johnny and Jerry BALDWIN. Mrs. ATWOOD had cared for her twin grandsons since.

The body was taken to the Catcott funeral home in Birmingham.

… Mr. and Mrs. Irwin ATWOOD, Donald and Wayne ATWOOD attended funeral services in Birmingham Monday afternoon for Mr. ATWOOD's mother, Mrs. W. T. ATWOOD of that place. Mr. ATWOOD had been often with his mother during the several weeks of her illness.

Miss Maude WILSON cousin of Mrs. ATWOD and Mrs. MITCHELL, also a guest in the DIMMITT home has returned to her home in Perry. …

Name Mrs. Maasdam Head Of Auxiliary As Year Is Closed

At the final meeting of the year of the Presbyterian Women's Auxiliary held recently in the church, reports of the past 12 months were made and election of officers for the coming year voted as follows:

President -- Mrs. W. K. Maasdam
Executive Chairman -- Mrs. Charles Parker
Secretary-Treasurer -- Mrs. Glenn Peebler
Mrs. Arthur H. Hope, Mrs. Claude Musselman and Mrs. W. H. Guyer were the nominating committee.

A moment of silence was observed in memory of the seven members who have passed away during the year: Mesdames W. G. Robinson, F. H. McQuiston, Anna Blough, John McKee, James Turner, Miss Kate Light and Mrs. W. T. ATWOOD of Birmingham. Mrs. ATWOOD had been a member of the local Auxiliary many years before transferring her membership to Birmingham.

Mrs. William Yingling, in charge of devotions read from I Cor. 13 using the Goodspeed translation as a basis for her remarks. A group of four students from the Parsons college play production class of Miss Eleanor Starkey presented a Spanish play "A Sunshiny Morning" translated for them by Prof. W. Jefferson Dennis. Those taking part were Miss Kathleen Linderson, Lockridge; Miss Marjory Schwimley, Kalona; Conway Baker, Fairfield; and Morris Johnson, Winfield, Mrs. Arnold Running sand "Barcorolla" as a vocal solo from the Tales of Hoffman with Miss Wanda Utterback, violinist and Mrs. E. G. Linder, piano, accompanists.

Miss Utterback accompanied by Mrs. Linder played two violin numbers "Alt Vien" and "Granados" by Godowsky arranged by Kreisler.

Coffee, dainty sandwiches and home-made cup cakes were served from a beautifully appointed table featuring a large gladioli centerpiece. Mrs. R. M. McKenzie and Mrs. Yingling poured.

The March committee had charge of the arrangements with Mrs. Don McGiffin as chairman and Mrs. William Fry and Mrs. Yingling as hostesses.
