Coroner Jack Raymond this morning ruled that John E. ARCHIBALD, Fairfield barber, died of a self-inflicted gun wound to the right temple.
His body was found in the parking lot south of the Jefferson county hospital about 5:30 a.m. by a hospital employe reporting for work.
City police were called and they in turn called for the coroner. The ARCHIBALD home is located at 803 E. Adams street across the street north from the hospital.
ARCHIBALD operated a barber shop in Fairfield for many years. His present shop is located in the basement under the Jefferson county Savings and Loan office on the southeast corner of the square.
Born In 1893
John E. ARCHIBALD, 65, was born Sept. 15, 1893, the son of Ross and Mary REED ARCHIBALD. He was reared and educated in the Eldon and Batavia communities.
He was married to Anna CRILE on June 4, 1924, at Fairfield. He had made his home in this city for 45 years and spent his entire life in this community. He was a member of the Lutheran church and the Modern Woodmen.
Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mary Louise DAVIS, Davenport; one son, Charles ARCHIBALD, Davenport; one grandchild and a brother, Harry ARCHIBALD, Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Tentative services have been set for 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Raymond funeral home with the Rev. Harold Kruger in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
