William ANGSTEAD, 91, last of the old time cigar makers in the community, died about 7:50 p.m. Sunday at the Ottumwa Hospital. He had been in failing health for some time.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. David R. Kennedy in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
ANGSTEAD entered the cigar-making trade at an early age. He was employed by Bevering, Raible and Kelley, cigar makers in Fairfield, before he opened his own business at the rear of his property, 306 E. Madison.
William ANGSTEAD was born June 30, 1878, in Dakota Territory near what is now Sioux Falls, S.D. He was the son of Hiram and Sarah LYNN ANGSTEAD. The family moved to Fairfield where he was reared and educated.
He was married to Nellie B. CLINKENBEARD July 26, 1904, in Fairfield. She preceded him in death May 15, 1966. ANGSTEAD was baptized in the Congregational Church.
Survivors include three brothers, Floyd ANGSTEAD, Hanna City, Ill.; Ray and Harold, both of Fairfield, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to this wife he was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.
