Front Page, Column 3SAMUEL ANDERSON DIES IN OTTUMWA HOSPITAL
Samuel ANDERSON of Packwood died at Ottumwa Hospital this morning at 9:50 o'clock. Funeral services will be held from the Methodist church of this city Sunday afternoon and burial will be made in Eevergren (sic) cemetery beside his wife who died in 1908
Mr. ANDERSON was a Civil War Veteran and was a member of company E of the Tenth infantry. He was 88 years, 6 months old (sic). He came to Packwood after the Civil War and lived on a farm 1½ miles south of Packwood with his daughter Mrs. Sarah CARLSON in Ottumwa for the past 4 years.

MRS. B. LUTES, CorrespondentNew of the death of Samuel ANDERSON reached here Friday morning. He pased (sic) away at the Ottumwa hospital at 9:50 Friday morning at the advanced age of 88 years and 6 months. Early in the summer, Mr. ANDERSON fell and broke a toe which never healed and finally developed into septic poisoning.
Mr. ANDERSON was a Civil war veteran serving with Co. E. 10th Illinois Infantry, for four yeads (sic). At the close of the war he came to Packwood and purchased the farm one and a half miles south, now owned by Steigleder & Son. He lived there for fifty years, then moved into town where he lived until four years ago. The latter part of his life he spent with his daughter, Mrs. Sarah CARLSON, at Ottumwa. His wife died in Packwood in 1908 and is buried in the Fairfield (sic - Evergreen) cemetery. The seven living children are: Mrs. Ellen CHANDLER, Packwood; Mrs. Sarah CARLSON, Ottumwa; Mrs. Minnie McKAY, Washington; Mrs. Myrtle McCLURG, Boise, Idaho; Mrs. Slema COUSIN, Beloit, Wis., and Mrs. Florence WEEDMAN of Chicago. The children will all be home for the funeral which will be neld (sic) at the Methodist church in Fairfield on Sunday afternoon. Interment will be in Fairfield cemetery beside his wife.

His obituaries infer that he was born in 1836, and his death certificate notes an 1836 birth, but Jefferson County Grave Records (WPA Report) gives an 1837 birth year as does the 1900 census. Buried in Lot 2nd.045 with wife Mary.
