May 13, 2005Joanna Ward, 88, of Richland, died at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005, at Sigourney Care Center in Sigourney following a lengthy illness.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Richland Friends Cemetery, with the Rev. Jason Nicholls and the Rev. Jim Bringman officiating. Lunch will be served at Rubio Community Building following the service.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland.
Memorials may be made to Keokuk County Historical Society.
Mrs. Ward was born Jan. 2, 1917, in Richland, the daughter of Asbury and Miriam Sasseen Bond. She married Kermit Mills Ward July 3, 1939 in Washington, Iowa. He died Nov. 11, 1974.
She lived her entire life in Richland. She graduated from Richland High School in 1935.
Mrs. Ward was a homemaker. She was a member of the Baptist church, Keokuk County Historical Society, Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Richland American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer at Veteran Administration Medical Center in Iowa City.
She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, writing poetry and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Ronnie R. Ward and wife Janet of Sigourney; one daughter, Konnie K. Hartnell and husband Jerry of Richland; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Helen Allen, Alice Halferty, Mary Hartzell, Faye Crawford and Virginia Barr; and two brothers, Fred Bond and Gus Bond.
