Tonya Benedict, 14, of Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Brian Swafford officiating. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant. Family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Antioch Independent Church, Children's Miracle Network, The Heart Connection Camp or to Relay For Life.

Miss Benedict was born June 16, 1990, in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of John R. and Kathryn A. "Kate" Cary Benedict.

She attended school in Mount Pleasant.

She loved music, Barbie dolls and watching movies.

She was an active member of Antioch Independent Church, where she enjoyed the Camp Outs for Jesus.

She loved attending the Heart Connection Camp and riding rollercoasters and amusement park rides. She also enjoyed shopping and going places with her brothers and friends.

Survivors include her parents; two brothers, Zack McAdams and Alex Benedict, both of Mount Pleasant; her grandparents, Richard and Jan Benedict of Mount Pleasant, Mary Sue Hoaglin of Fairfield, and Walt and Marilyn Cary of Washington, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents.
