DESPONDENT ENDS OWN LIFE AT HOME HERE

Elmer John ANDERSON, 47, longtime resident of this city, took his own life about 9:00 p.m. Saturday evening at his home, 209 North Ninth street.

The veteran of World War I, who had not been well enough to work for sometime, is believed to have shot himself because of despondency over his illness.

Authorities, including County Sheriff Thomas Howell, County Attorney Booker Smith, members of the State Highway patrol and Justice of Peace J. R. Peters, who was designated by law to serve in the absence of the regular coroner, were called to the ANDERSON home immediately following the incident.

ANDRSON was found lying on the bed fully clothed with the exception of his shoes and stockings. Detath (sic) was caused by one shot of a 22-calibre rifle fired into his head. Inquest officially determining the suicide was held yesterday.

Mr. ANDERSON was the son of the late Charles F. and Anna Louise ANDERSON of Sweden. He was born November 15, 1896 in Mt. Pleasant, Ia. On June 12, 1919 he was united in marriage to Vernie Kathryn MILLER.

Surviving are his wife, four daughters and three sons: Miss Eleanor ANDERSON, Mrs. Jeanette BLOOMQUIST and Miss Lois ANDERSON, all of Ft. Winfield Scott, Calif.; Miss Marilyn ANDERSON, Fairfield; Glen, Merle and Larry ANDERSON, all of Fairfield. Two children died in infancy.

Also surviving are two brothers, Walter of Winfield, IA., and Harry of Omaha, Neb.; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie ANDERSON, Glendale, Calif.; Mrs. Florence ANDERSON, Swedesburg, Ia. and Mrs. Hilder SPANGLER, Winfield, Ia.

Mr. ANDERSON was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the Lutheran church.

Private funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, June 22, from the Weston Behner funeral home. Rev. E. A. Piper will officiate and the body will be interred with military honors in the Evergreen cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from Tuesday morning until the time of the services.
