DIED.

… ALTER -- At his late residence, near this city, April 23d, 1877, David ALTER, aged 66 years, 5 months and 16 days.

Mr. ALTER was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania. In 1835 he emigrated to Wayne county, Ohio, where in 1837 he was united in marriage to Miss Hester WELTY, with whom he lived happily until his death.

For forty years they bore the mutual shares of each others joys, and sorrows--rearing a family of three sons and two daughters, besides a sister's daughter, who was left an orphan when a child.

Our departed brother was an earnest Christian and faithful member of the Baptist church for forty years.

When the time came to give a final test of his faith he was found ready and equal to the task, having no desire to recover his health, but anxious to depart and be with his Saviour. Anxious to see all his children, brothers and sisters, they were sent for; three brothers and one sister came, and gave him great comfort in is last moments. One son in Ohio, and one in Denver, could not come; one daughter, Mrs. RICKETS, who recently moved to Denver, started as soon as she received the inteligence (sic) of her father's sickness, but did not arrive here until the morning after his burial, although the remains was kept three days in waiting for her.

The funeral occurred in the Baptist church in this city, and an appropriate sermon preached by the pastor, Rev. J. Frey, founded on Heb., 9th chapter, 27th and 28th verses, after which his remains was followed to their last resting place, by a large concourse of sorrowing friends.

Let us sorrow not, as those that have no hope; for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even also those that sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him.
