OBITUARY

Phebe (sic) A. ALEXANDER

Phebe A. BURRIS, daughter of Rev. John and Sarah BURRIS was born in West Newton, Indiana, January 31st, 1851, and died at Ames, Iowa, April 3, 1925, aged 74 years, 2 months and 3 days.

With her parents she went to Muscatine, Iowa, in the fall of 1868, where they lived for nearly five years. In the spring of 1873 her parents moved to Grundy county, Mo. After that date she made her home alternately with an older brother Columbus, in Madison county, Iowa, and her parents in Missouri, until her marriage to James G. ALEXANDER, which occurred in Ravanna, Mo., on April 15, 1882. After her marriage her home was in Mercer county, Mo., for ten years. In 1892 the family took up their residence in Fairfield, Ia., residing there until 1904, when they moved to Ames, Ia., at which place her earthly pilgrimage ended.

To her union with Mr. ALEXANDER there were five children, namely, Charles O., Rolla, John B., Mary Cecil and Robert. Of these James B. and Robert died in infancy. The other three are living in Ames, and were present when their mother bade adieu to earthly scenes.

In her girlhood Mrs. ALEXANDER became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and continued in that relation, faithful unto the end. For many years she was sorely afflicted, which presented (sic) her from the measure of active church work which she would have been glad to give. However it is not saying too much to say her heart was fully sympathetic with the work of the Master and when he (sic - her) physical condition would allow, greatly enjoyed the privileges of the sanctuary. She passed into the eternities without a struggle, her last moments being spent in communion with her Heavenly Father asking for release for her earthly burdens. The end was perfect peace.

There remain to mourn her going, the husband, three children and four grandchildren of her immediate family. Besides there are three brothers, Oliver H., of Alamo, California, William F., and Charles of St. Joseph, Mo. The oldest brother died, December last in Salem, Oregon.

Those who have known Mrs. ALEXANDER most intimately have no doubt but that that her spirit has winged its way to eternal rest. During practically half her life she was a constant sufferer. That she "rests well" they have no doubt.
