J. G. ALEXANDER, 82, Is Victim Of Pneumonia

J. G. ALEXANDER, 82, of 908 Douglas avenue, died at the Mary Greeley hospital Wednesday night following a 10 days illness of pneumonia.

Mr. ALEXANDER was born in Bellaire county (sic - Belmont Co.?), O., Aug. 29, 1854. Before moving to Ames in 1904, and until he organized the Alexander Manufacturing company here in 1913, he was a salesman of farm and garden tools. He and his sons operated the manufacturing concern here until 1920, after which Mr. Alexander continued alone until a few years ago.

The concern, which manufactured plows and garden tools, was the only private industrial plant here for a number of years, according to his son, C. O., who is now superintendent of the city water works.

He was married to Phoebe Ann BURRIS April 5, 1882 at Ravanna, Mo., and his wife died here in April, 1925.

Surviving him are two sons, C. O. of Ames and C. R. of Wichita, Kan.; one daughter, Mrs. H. P. STEARNS of Ames; three brothers, Ross of Mercer, Mo., Frank of Vellana, O., and Homer of Corvallis, Ore., and one sister, Mrs. Lora VREEDLODE of Huston, Texas. Also surviving are four grandchildren in Ames.

Funeral services will be held from the Adams funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. E. L. Shaffer of the United Brethren church in charge . Burial will be in the Fairfield cemetery (sic - Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, Jefferson Co., IA).
