Death Comes To Gilbert MARTIN

Gilbert MARTIN, life-time resident of Jefferson county, passed away Sunday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nora HARBOUR, at Grinnell, Iowa.

He had been in failing health for the past few years but his death was sudden and unexpected.

Last rites will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home with Dr. J. Henry Teele in charge. Burial will be in the Wright cemetery southeast of Fairfield.

Gilbert MARTIN, 86, was born Aug. 1, 1873, in Jefferson county, the son of John and Mary Elizabeth LOVING MARTIN. He was married to Dollie May HALL on Nov. 26, 1896, near Glasgow. She passed away July 21, 1958.

The family farm is located 1½ miles west of Glasgow in Round Prairie township. He had lived his entire life in this county until he went to Grinnell to make his home with his daughter after his wife had passed away.

He is survived by the following children: Nora HARBOUR, Grinnell; Maude OPDAHL, Grinnell; Carl MARTIN, Glasgow; Mrs. Velma CASTELL, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Merle HARTLEY, Glasgow; and Glenn MARTIN, Glasgow.

He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister and was the last of his family.
