John R. FICKEL

John R. FICKEL, 90, 1201 S. Sixth St., died at 5:53 a.m. today, July 23, 1993, at Parkview Care Center.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Clark officiating. Burial will be in Wright Cemetery. Visitation will be open at the funeral home beginning Sunday noon with the family present from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday. A memorial has been established to the American Heart Fund.

FICKEL was born Nov. 16, 1902, in Van Buren County, the son of Alfred and Effie BONNETT FICKEL. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1921. In 1923, he married May PARSONS, who died in 1925. On Jan. 14, 1928, he married Eleanor PARSONS in Fairfield. She died May 20, 1984. A resident of the Fairfield community most of his life, he farmed until 1927, then joined the Dexter-Philco Co., where he worked for more than 42 years, retiring from the shipping department in 1970.

Surviving are two daughters, Darlene BEAUCHAMP of Scottsdale, Ariz., Alice BURTON of Lafayette, Ind.; a son, Ralph of Fairfield; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ervin of Ames and Elvin of West Des Moines. An infant daughter, Marjorie, a sister, Esther, a brother, Earl, and a grandson preceded him in death.
