FORT MADISON, Ia., July 25 -- Frank DeWITT, burned last Tuesday when he mistook a can of gasoline for a can of kerosene in starting a cook stove fire, died Saturday (sic - 11 p.m. Friday per death certificate) and the funeral is being held today (Monday) at Stockport.
The accident which cost DeWITT his life occurred while he was starting the morning fire in the stove. By mistake he poured gasoline into the stove instead of kerosene, and the resulting explosion burned off his clothing and gutted the house. He is survived by his widow, Mary DeWITT, this city, and a former wife, Sarah DeWITT, Stockport; a sister, Mrs. Geneva CRINSHOW (sic - CRENSHAW) of Mt. Pleasant; and a brother, Hosea, of Fairfield. Another brother, Homer, preceeded (sic) him in death. The following children also survive: Mrs. M. PETERS of this city; Mrs. W. T. WHITE, Mrs. Ray WATSON and Oren, Harry, Edna, Edwin and Wallace, all of Stockport, Iowa.
