… On the 1st (sic - 2nd) in Cedar township died Charles L. COX aged 89. Mr. COX had lived in Iowa 70 years and in this county 66 years. In 1844 he planted an orchard of grafted fruit and was all his life interested in horticulture. …

Charles was married to Anna K. WINN NORVEL, who died in 1887 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery. Charles' death year is mis-engraved on his gravestone -- it reads 1908 and should be 1909.
