ALBERT A. COX PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY.

Albert A. COX, one of the most widely known of Jefferson county's pioneer farmers, passed away Wednesday afternoon at four o'clock at his home seven miles southeast of the city. He was in his 84th year, and death was due to the infirmaties (sic) of age. His health had been failing for some time past and the end was not entirely unexpected.

Mr. COX was born in Carthage, Ill., August 20th, 1833, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles COX. He came with his parents to Jefferson county when five years old, and has made his home here continuously since then with the exception of seven years spent in the west. At the time of the opening of Pike's Peak he went overland with an ox team, being on the road six months. He went from Colorado to the coast, traveling through California, Oregon, and Idaho.

In 1867 he was married to Elizabeth ZION, who with one son, Frank, and a daughter, Mrs. T. W. GRANT, of this city, survive him. He also has one brother living, Brunson COX, of Sewall, Iowa, and two grand children, Margaret COX and Mrs. Nellie GRANT-TOPPING. One son, William, died at the age of five years.

Mr. COX has been one of the most successful farmers and stockmen of the county, and his long years of diligent work have been amply rewarded. He was one of the large land owners of the county, and while he never sought office or exerted his wide influence in a political way, he has always been a staunch Republican.

The funeral services will be held at the home on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock and will be in charge of Rev. Berdine of Montazuma, Ia. The interrment will be in the Wright cemetery.
