Miss Anna COPELAND died in the Ottumwa hospital Friday (note: in Wapello Co., IA). She was a daughter of the late John W. COPELAND, who died in this city about three years ago, and was perhaps thirty-eight years of age. She had been ill for several months. Friends who knew her in this city and at her old home in Des Moines township, speak of her as a very estimable woman.

OBITUARY.

Editors Ledger:-- Anna COPELAND was born April 28th, 1845, in Shelby county, Ind., and died in the hospital at Ottumwa, December 5th, 1900. In January, 1865, her father moved to Iowa and settled in Des Moines township. February, 1887 her mother died and Anna gave up cherished plans and assumed the care of her father and the family. Soon after she assumed these duties a younger sister became an invalid and she tenderly cared for this sister until death took her. A married sister died and left a little crippled son five or six years old; she took him and became a mother to him. Her father removed to Fairfield to secure better educational advantages. He soon became an invalid, and, after a lingering illness, died. After this she and the boys removed to Iowa City for school advantages. She was permitted to see two of her brothers graduate, and the adopted son lacked but one year of finishing the course of study. Anna's last work was in answer to the call for help in the home of Ira PEEBLER, while he was down with typhoid fever and his wife was in the hospital for treatment. When released from this responsibility she went to the hospital for a surgical operation and lived but two or three days after it was performed. She was patient, hopeful, cheerful and faithful. She became a christian and united with the M. E. church in February, 1878. Her's (sic) was a beautiful christian and lovely character. Her devotion to the family and unselfish love greatly endeared her to all her friends. Her trust in Jesus Christ was unshaken to the last. She was the eldest of ten children, five of whom survive her, Rev. Ed. G., now in Boston Theological university; William, who resides on the old homestead; O. P., in California; Dr. John, in Nebraska and Mrs. Ira PEEBLER in Des Moines township. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Eyestone and Rev. C. Springer at Mt. Zion church.
