A very sudden death occurred in Des Moines township last Sunday. Mrs. George BLACK, one of the oldest settlers in the township, sank down on the ground while walking about in the yard of a neighbor, Mr. Jerry Larkson's and in a few moments afterwards was a corpse. She was about fifty-six years old, and while her health has not been good for some years, yet within the last few weeks it has been much better, and it was hoped she might recover. Her death was a very severe blow to Mr. BLACK. The funeral occurred Monday and was one of the largest ones in that section for years.

Note: Her age is shown on her gravestone as "IN THE 57 Year of her AGE", likely meaning she was 56 and had not had her 57th birthday yet. For this reason it is uncertain whether she was born in 1824 or 1825, however when she and George married on August 17, 1844, she reported her age as 20. Interment was in Winsell Cemetery. Her maiden name was HARRIS.
