Jesse ASHMEAD Taken In Death

LIBERTYVILLE -- Jessie (sic) ASHMEAD, 97, a lifelong resident of Libertyville and Ottumway (sic), died at 3:20 a.m. today at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home near Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA).

The body is at the Campbell Funeral Home in Eldon where last rites are pending.

ASHMEAD was born March 10, 1871 at Libertyville, the son of Hiram and Elizabeth MORRISON ASHMEAD. He was married to Essie McCLAIN Oct. 25, 1893.

ASHMEAD was a retired Libertyville rural mail carrier and a member of the Libertyville Methodist Church. Surviving are his widow and the following children: Mrs. Lester CANNY and Mrs. Kyle BELVEL, both of Ottumwa; Mrs. Jessie MORSI, Pendleton, Ore., Mrs. Billie STAPLES, Earl ASHMEAD and Bob ASHMEAD, all of Portland, Ore.

Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and a number of great-great-grandchildren.

ASHMEAD Rites

ELDON -- Last rites for Jesse P. ASHMEAD, 97, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home in Eldon.

ASHMEAD, a lifelong resident of Libertyville and Ottumwa, died Tuesday at the Good Samaritan Home near Ottumwa.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. John Nye. Burial will be in Winsell Cemetery.
