HODSON Dies At Oakdale

PLEASANT PLAIN -- James Henry HODSON, 72, died Saturday at the Oakdale Hospital (note: in Johnson Co., IA) after a lengthy illness. He had been seriously ill the past two months.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Gould Funeral Home in Brighton. Rev. Gordon Packard of the Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Walnut Cemetery.

HODSON was born Feb. 9, 1895 near Pleasant Plain, the son of Jonathan and Bertha Mable McMURRAY HODSON, and was reared and educated in the Pleasant Plain Community.

He was a retired railroad employee and a member of the Walnut Friends Church.

He is survived by six children, Paul HODSON of St. Joseph, Mo., William K. HODSON of El Paso, Tex., Robert H. HODSON of Lakeview, Ark., Mrs. Robert HOLLADY of Mechanicsville, Mrs. William BROWN of Muscatine and Mrs. Charles JOHNSON of Birmingham, 32 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, one brother, Ross HODSON of Brighton and one sister, Mrs. James MORGAN of Brighton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two sisters and two brothers.

Note: His wife, according to the 1925 Iowa Census, was Violet, the daughter of Clara THOMPSON and unknown (to whomever gave the info) father. In county marriage records she is noted as Viola M. KUTZ, no parents noted, married May 12, 1915. By the 1930 census, James states he's a widow; what became of Viola/Violet is unknown at this time.
