BrightonNancy ADRIAN, 63, of Brighton, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington. Nancy was born May 29, 1956, in Washington to Harold "Mike" Joseph and Georgia Helen WISE MINEART. Nancy grew up in Brighton on the family farm and loved spending time with her horses. She graduated from Washington High School in 1974, and from the University of Northern Iowa in 1978 with a degree in Elementary Education. She married Robert E. ADRIAN in East Pleasant Plain on June 29, 1979. She was the most dedicated farm wife you could ask for. Nancy taught school for one year in Clinton, then became a bookkeeper for Washington Thermogas/Cenex for 23 years. Nancy was a volunteer Washington County Extension Council member, which led to an interest and passion where she would work for the next 17 years now serving as the County Director. In 2012, she was the Washington County 4-H Hall of Fame recipient and in 2017, she earned the ISU County Professional Excellence in Ag & Natural Resource Program Award. She was a member of a number of civic organizations, including Washington County Barn Quilts, Washington Tourism Committee, Brighton Community Chamber of Commerce, 4-H Leader in Brighton, Master Gardener, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society and Religious Education teacher. She was a true Brighton Bear always giving to her local small town. She played a critical role in naming the Ding Darling Highway, planning Whoopee Days for several years and the creation of Washington County Freedom Rock Park. You could never find a kinder heart or a bigger smile.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Robert of Brighton; daughter Amy GREEN (John) of Brighton; son, Mike ADRIAN of Waterloo and fiance James Buchholz; one sister, Lisa CLARK (Kevin) of Wayland; one brother, Joe MINEART (Barb) of Marion; and two grandchildren, Adrian and Jackson GREEN of Brighton, where she lived her best life as a grandma.
