JASPER LYNN
Jasper LYNN, son of John and Elizabeth LYNN, was born in Bedford county, Pa., on Feb. 15, 1843.
At the age of eighteen months he came with his parents and family, by way of Keokuk, up the river to Burlington, across country with team and wagon, settling in Jefferson county on a farm in the Richwoods community.
Here, he grew to manhood, following the usual routine of the early pioneer boy, helping clear away the timbers, turning the virgin soil into the productive land that it now is. In his spare time he helped his father at the carpenter trade, this being the work he followed the greater part of his life.
On Nov. 14, 1867 he was united in marriage to Caroline ANGSTEAD to this union were born five children, John F., of Robbinsdale, Minn., Harry, of this city Mrs. Della MESSER who resides on a farm east of Fairfield; Agnes E and Myrtha M. deceased.
His wife having preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 1905.
He is also survived by one granddaughter, six grandsons, one great grandson. Mrs. Sarah ANGSTEAD, a sister, who is now the only living member of this large pioneer family, will also mourn his departure.
Mr. LYNN's entire life was spent on the old LYNN homestead, except three years spent in California when a young man.
On March 1st, 1923 he moved to Fairfield with his son Harry, and since that time has resided at 408 West Hempstead street.
Had Mr. LYNN lived until Feb. he would have been eighty-five years of age.
He was active until the time of his last illness being able to be up town every day. He will be sorely missed by his many friends with whom he met each day, chatting over and reliving the days of youth, when Fairfield was a village of but few inhabitants and the whirr of a motor was unknown.
On Sept. 29 Mr. LYNN fell, breaking his hip, he was taken to the Jefferson County hospital, passing away after two weeks of patient suffering on Oct. 12.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Voorhies of Presbyterian church, at the Hoskins Funeral Home on Oct. 13.
He was laid to rest in the Richwoods cemetery, near the home of his youth, this being the burial place of five generations of LYNNs.
