S. T. CAVINESS DIED SUNDAY

S. T. CAVINESS, one of the well known residents of Jefferson county died Sunday morning at his home east of the city. He had been ill but a short time with pneumonia.

Simeon CAVINESS was born January 1, 1844, in Hendricks county, Indiana. His parents were Kirby and Ethel CAVINESS, both of whom have preceeded him in death.

Coming to this county, the family located in Richwoods. In early manhood he was united in marriage with Fannie GREEN on April 16th, 1873. They have travelled life's journey together for almost forty-three years.

Mr. CAVINESS was surrounded in his last hours by his wife, daughter Ida, son Norvel and wife, and two grandsons, Forest and Milford. He also leaves 4 brothers and 2 sisters, William, of Warren county; Richard, of Pleasant Pain (sic); John, of Greenfield and E. K. of Fairfield; Rachel LONG, of Mt. Ayr, and Mary SMITH, of Ames.

Mr. CAVINESS became an Adventist in early life and he ever lived true to its teachings. He was of a quiet and unassuming manner. He devoted himself to his own affairs with the closest fidelity and bore a character of highest integrity. He was a kind father, a devoted husband, a sincere friend and a devoted Christian. He will be sadly missed from the community.

The funeral will be conducted by Elder Watts, of Ottumwa. The service occurs Monday from the home of his son and on the same farm where Mr. CAVINESS had lived thirty-two years -- the home farm near Beckwith.

The body will be laid to rest in the Richwood cemetery by the side of a little daughter, who died many years ago.
