On the 13th of May, 1882, occurred the death, in this city, of Mrs. Lydia, wife of George W. WHITE, aged 30 years, 11 months and 1 day. Her disease was consumption. Mrs. WHITE was born in Burlington, her maiden name being Lydia VEBURG. She removed to Jefferson county in 1853, and became the adopted daughter of Eli SMITH. In 1873 she was married to Mr. WHITE, by whom she had four children, three of whom are living. She became a member of the M. E. church in 1869, and has always been a constant member of that denomination. She was a loving wife, a kind and tender mother and a good neighbor. In her last moments she said she would like to live for her husband and children, but that if it was God's will she should be taken home she was ready to obey the summons. She requested her friends to remain around the bedside and sing, she herself trying to join in the songs of praise. Her husband and friends mourn her loss deeply. She was buried in Glendale cemetery (sic - Union Cemetery near Glendale), seven miles east of Fairfield, Monday, where the last sad rites were paid to her mortal remains.
