Eli SMITH died at his home on South C, street yesterday morning, April 5th, 1906, at 11:30 o'clock, at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 15 days. Short funeral services will be held at the home in this city tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock. The body will then be taken to Parsonsville church where funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock, and interment will be in the Union cemetery near Glendale.

Glendale

… The funeral of Mr. Eli SMITH, who died at Fairfield April 5, was held at the church April 7, conducted by Rev. Thomas Osborn, of Fairfield, assisted by Rev. C. J. Chrestensen. A large number of old time friends paid their last tribute of respect to one who had lived so many years among them. Five grandsons, all sons of William R. SMITH and Monroe KYLE a son-in-law of the same were bearers of the casket. Eben Peck, of Ottumwa, was here to attend the funeral.

Note: Eli was married twice, first to Mary Ann JAMES in 1834 who died in 1849, and second to Elizabeth HICKENBOTTOM on March 31, 1850, who died in 1910. Both wives are buried at Union Cemetery.
