Obituary.
Word has been received that Balden PARSONS, who removed from this neighborhood to California four years ago, died at Napa the 3d of December. Mr. PARSONS was one of the first born white children of this county, born in 1838. He lived on the farm that was his birthplace, for more than sixty years and was identified with all the interests of the neighborhood. No call of one sick, for help, was unheeded by Mr. PARSONS and in cases of sickness and death no family of the community but has grateful remembrance of his readiness by day or by night, to respond to the call.
When a boy, Mr. PARSONS was converted at a campmeeting in Richwoods and all his life was a regular attendant of religious services, most of his years an official member of the church. Notwithstanding his lingering and dreadfully agonizing death, from cancer, he was able in his dying moments to praise God for a faith that triumphed over death.
By Mary OVERHOLZER, the wife of his youth, Mr. PARSONS had seven children, six sons and one daughter, all of whom are still living; the daughter, Mrs. H. H. HARRAH and James, who was a member of Co. M 50th Iowa, live in California, the five other sons in Iowa. On the death of the above wife Mr. PARSONS married Mrs. Henry TEETER and for a year or more lived at Fairfield. Mrs. PARSONS was unremitting in her attention to her greatly afflicted husband and to the last moment soothed his sorrowful condition.
A large number of friends and relatives gathered at the family residence on Pine and Jefferson streets Tuesday afternoon to pay their last respects, and numerous floral offerings adorned the casket Impressive ceremonies were conducted by Rev. H. J. Winsor assisted by Rev. Tallman. A choir sang "Rock of Ages" and "Jesus Lover of My Soul." The remains were interred in Tulocay cemetery. H. H.

*Transcribed for genealogy purposes; I have no relation to the person(s) mentioned.Note: Baldon a/k/a Baldwin PARSONS was twice married, first to Mary M. OVERHULSER/OVERHOLSER who died in 1899; she is buried in Union Cemetery east of Fairfield, IA, and he appears on her stone there. This is a cenotaph, however (monument with no actual burial there), as he is buried in CA as noted above, with his second wife, Eliza J. SMITH TEETER whom he married on October 25, 1900.
