Mrs. McCormick, One Of Oldest Residents, Dies

Mrs. Eliza McCormick, 99, one of the oldest residents in Jefferson county, died about 4:05 a.m. Sunday at the Nelson nursing home west of Fairfield. Had she lived until Sept. 16 she would have been 100 years old.

She had been in failing health since October, 1954, and seriously ill the past four days.

Last rites will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Raymond funeral home with the Rev. J. Roland Crandall in charge. Burial will be in the Union cemetery east of Fairfield.

Eliza Ann McCormick was born Sept. 16, 1863, while the Civil War was in progress and Abraham Lincoln was president. She was born in Jefferson county, the daughter of John and Dora DIERS WILLIAMS.

She was educated in Jefferson county and was married Sept. 21, 1882, at Fairfield to Scott McCormick. She had lived her entire life in Jefferson county and was a member of the Bethesda Methodist church. The family home is four miles east of Fairfield.

Mrs. McCormick is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Arthur C. SCHWARM, Evanston, Ill.; Mrs. Peter BUCHER, Mrs. Earl MARTIN, Mrs. Ray McWHIRTER, Mrs. Ben LIBLIN, all of Fairfield; two sons, Guy and Glenn, both of Fairfield.

Other survivors include 16 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died July 19, 1932, six brothers, two sisters, two daughters who died in infancy, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
