Joseph J. HICKENBOTTOM

Joseph J. HICKENBOTTOM, 93, 307 W. Van Buren Ave., died at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 1993, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Hickman officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery east of Fairfield. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Fairfield Foursquare Gospel Church.

HICKENBOTTOM was born July 16, 1899, at Parsonsville, the son of Perry and Rose Bell PARSONS HICKENBOTTOM. He grew up in the Parsonsville community and farmed in the Parsonsville area until moving to Illinois. He worked for Joliet Caterpillar, later for the Moline Consumers Sand and gravel Co., and worked in maintenance for the Colona, Ill., grade school. He married Minnie M. GOHN on Aug. 10, 1918, in Fairfield. He was a member of Moline Gospel Temple while living in the Quad Cities and was among those instrumental in starting the Foursquare Gospel Church in Fairfield. He was a former member of Iowa National Guard. He and his wife moved to Packwood in 1967 and to Fairfield in 1978.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Donald of Packwood, Roger of East Moline, Ill.; a daughter, Thelma DAILEY of Packwood; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Lois Rose HICKENBOTTOM, a son, Ferne, five grandchildren, two brothers, Chester and Clarence, and two sisters, Mary Louise BROSTROM and Ada GRABER, preceded him in death.
