Oliver GOHN dies at 75

Oliver S. GOHN, Sr., 75, former member of the Fairfield Police Department, died at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson County Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

Members of the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Oliver S. GOHN was born March 21, 1904 at Burlington, the son of Frank and Julia AULT GOHN. He spent his early life in the Burlington and Mount Pleasant communities, and his adult life in the Fairfield Community.

GOHN was a member of the Nazarene Church and served on the Fairfield Police Department for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1970.

He was married to Myra Agnes RUSSELL Feb. 12, 1925. She died Sept. 8, 1965. His marriage to Helen RAINS took place Dec. 9, 1967, in Fairfield. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Oliver S. GOHN, Jr., Emmettsburg; Vernard GOHN, Concord, N.C.; and Howard GOHN, Davenport; one daughter, Barbara LETTS, Olathe, Kansas.

He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; four step-children, Robert RAINS, Birmingham; Leonard RAINS, Des Moines; Karen FORDYCE, Davenport; Dorothy BARROW, Fairfield; eight step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren.

Others include two sisters, Mrs. William SMITH, Ottumwa, and Mrs. Joe HICKENBOTTOM, Packwood.

GOHN was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
