April 25, 2005Robert G. "Bob" Merschman, 80, of St. Paul died at 11:40 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2005, at West Point Care Center in West Point.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul, with the Rev. Gary Beckman and the Rev. Apo Mpanda officiating. Burial will be in the St. James Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the church. Family will be present from 2:30-4 p.m. and 6:30-8 p.m.
A Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. today, and a Christian Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today at the church.
Memorials may be made to Marquette School, St. Paul Center.
Lynk Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Merschman was born Aug. 19,1924, the son of Henry and Agnes Rauenbuehler Merschman. He married Lucille Pieper Jan. 31, 1948, in Houghton.
He lived his entire life in St. Paul in the house he was born in.
He graduated from St. John's High School in Houghton and attended Fort Madison Business College.
Mr. Merschman was in the United States Navy Sea Bees during World War II. His tour of duty was in the South Pacific.
He owned and operated a feed and fertilizer business until he retired in 1986. He enjoyed woodworking during his retirement.
Mr. Merschman was a member of St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul. He was a member of the West Point Knights of Columbus.
He was St. Paul's city treasurer for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Karen Redeker and husband Frank of Fairfield, Marcia Kruse and husband John of Hillsboro, Becky Wallace and husband Fred of Long Grove, Joan Gentry and husband Gary of Carrollton, Texas, and Angie Box and husband Brad of West Point; one brother, William Merschman of West Point; two sisters, Wilma Panther of Muscatine and Martha Meke of Pilot Grove; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Debra Freitag; and one sister, Marian Dingman.
