PACKWOOD - Homer WIGGINS, 83, of Packwood, died April 30, 1997, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.
He was born July 1, 1913, near Hedrick to John W. and Jessie BROWN WIGGINS. He married Helen E. EDMUND May 12, 1936 in Reynold, Ill.
A 1931 graduate of Packwood High School, he lived in the Packwood area most of his life. He attended school at Abingdon. He lived in the Packwood area most of his life. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Past President and long time member of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau, Township Assessor, clerk at auctions and clerk at livestock sale barns and a farmer. He retired from farming in 1974. He spent part of the past 50 summers in Deer River, Minn. and part of the past 25 winters in Weslaco, Tex.
He is survived by his wife of Packwood; two sons, Mark W. of Monroe and Craig E. of Packwood; two daughters, Linda A. CONNER of Richland and Elaine M. TAYLOR of Longmont, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
The service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Packwood, the Rev. Harlan Van Voorst officiating.
Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Gould Funeral Home in Richland.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, the Heart Fund or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
