... CUMMINGS.--Suddenly at her home in Buchanan Township, July 1st, 1879, Mrs. Maria CUMMINGS, wife of Mr. Samuel CUMMINGS.
Mrs. CUMMINGS has long resided in and about Fairfield. She was the daughter of Adam CASE, and a sister of Geo. H. CASE, both well known in this county, the latter of Jewell Co., Kansas. After having retired and gone to sleep, she was awakened with a paroxysm of coughing, from which death relieved her in about twenty minutes. She leaves behind a husband, four children and a large circle of kindred and friends to mourn her departure.

Page 3, Column 5A Sudden Death.--Died, July 1st, 1879, at her residence in Pleasant Grove, Mrs. Maria CUMMINGS. The deceased was taken away suddenly, only being sick about half an hour. She was as well as usual at nine o'clock; went to bed, and in about an hour complained of feeling unwell. She then commenced counghing. The phlegm rose in her throat so she could not lie down, and rising she sat up in a large chair. After being up a few minutes she passed away without a struggle. Mrs. CUMMINGS was a lady of unusual serenity of temper, as those who have known her longest say that they never knew her to be angry. She was a kind neighbor and a loving mother. She leaves a husband and four small children, several sisters, two brothers and many neighbors, to mourn her sudden demise. But they do not mourn as those having no hope, as she was, all believe, a true christian. How forcibly this should bring to our minds the scriptural text, "Be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man cometh." Mr. CUMMINGS and family have the sympathy of the entire neighborhood in this their great affliction.
The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon at half past three. W. M. Y.
