DEATH OF MRS. SARAH CUMMINGS

... At her house, and the home of her son Samuel, three miles east of Fairfield, Friday, Sept. 5, 1884, aged 90 years 8 months and 9 days. ... Funeral services were held at the house Sunday afternoon by Rev. T. D. Ewing, and at four o’clock her remains were interred in the Evergreen Cemetery. ... William L. and Sarah CUMMINGS came to this county from Indiana in the fall of 1843. Mr. CUMMINGS died Sept. 4, 1844. ... There were eight children born to them, seven of whom are now living. In 1846 she removed with her family to the farm on which she died. ... All of the living children were present at the funeral, and mingled their tears over the grave of a beloved mother, who was gathered to her final home like a fruit fully ripe.

... Mrs. Sarah CUMMINGS, over 90 years old, died at the residence of hers on Samuel, three miles east of this city, last Friday, Sept. 5th. She was the mother of Mrs. CUNNINGHAM, of this city, and of Mrs. Daniel McDONALD, now in New Mexico.

Note: Buried in Lot Old.P.384. Her year of death is noted as 1885 on her headstone, which is not correct. Husband William L. CUMMINGS is buried in Old Fairfield City Cemetery, next to Evergreen Cemetery. At the time of his death, Evergreen Cemetery did not exist; it was founded in 1871.
