Violet May Lowe, 80, of Brighton, died Saturday, April 3, 2005, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Brighton United Church with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Hook Cemetery north of Brighton.

Open visitation will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton with the family present from 7-8 p.m.

Memorials have been established to the Brighton United Church or the Brighton Volunteer First Responders.

Mrs. Lowe was born May 1, 1924, in Crawfordsville, the daughter of Frank William and Jessie Luella Mitchell Fletcher. She married Delbert C. Lowe Jan. 23, 1947, in Brighton. He died Oct. 31, 1998.

She grew up in Crawfordsville and graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1941. She worked for the Crawfordsville post office for five and a half years. She resided in Brighton since her marriage.

Mrs. Lowe was an elder in the Presbyterian church, a member of the Brighton United Church and served on the Parish Council.

She also was a member of the Martha Circle, American Legion Auxiliary and served on the election board for several years.

Survivors include three sons, William G. Lowe and wife Sue of Birmingham, Randy L. Lowe and Terry C. Lowe of Brighton; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren and one sister Lois Farrier of Columbus Junction.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Vernon, Lyle, Virgil and Clarence Fletcher.
