A Veteran Gone.

John D. GUDGELL, a veteran soldier of the war of the rebellion who has been a resident of Fairfield for a third of a century past, died at his home Monday evening from chronic malaria contracted in the service. He had been in ill health for many years, and confined to the house for five months past. Mr. GUDGELL was a native of Kentucky and 55 years of age. In 1861 he enlisted in Co F of the third Iowa cavalry and served full three years, proving one of the best of that company’s excellent soldiers. The greater part of his life was spent in this city, and it was here he married Miss Sophia HAYWOOD, who, with five children, survives him. The funeral occurs today at 2 o'clock, and will be conducted by George Strong Post of the G. A. R.
