KeosauquaHarold DICKINSON, 91, of Keosauqua, Iowa passed away on March 14, 2019 at Keosauqua Health Care Center (note: in Van Buren Co., IA). He was born on December 10, 1927 in Brighton, Iowa to William Lloyd and Lavonia DODDER DICKINSON and grew up southeast of Richland, Iowa. He attended county school through 8th grade and then graduated from Richland High School in 1945. He helped on the family farm until he married Juanita BAKER on January 27, 1946. Together Harold and Juanita raised four children, Marcia, Diana, Rhonda, and Steven.
Harold entered the United States Army in 1946. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a mechanic in the Bob Hannah Garage in Richland and continued working part-time after moving to a farm south of Richland. Later farming in the Keosauqua and Birmingham areas. Harold was a member of a 4-H club growing up, belonged to the Richland American Legion, attended Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, served on the Church Board, was a member of the Birmingham Lions Club for a number of years, on the A.S.C.S. Committee Board in Fairfield, and a Liberty Township trustee.
He was quick witted and determined, he could not be told that something could not be done, and was always available to help a friend or neighbor out with whatever needed to be done. Most of all he was devoted to his family and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his three daughters, Marcia BECK of Keosauqua, Iowa, Diana (Dean) GOEMAAT of Douds, Iowa, Rhonda DICKINSON of Keosauqua, Iowa; a son, Steven (Jennice MARTIN) of Fairfield, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Bryan BECK, Jason BECK, Danean (Dan) KIRCHNER, Dale (Bonnie) GOEMAAT, Suzanne GOEMAAT, Sam DICKINSON; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 sister-in-law, Irene DICKINSON, and Alice BAKER.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita; parents, Lloyd and Lavonia DICKINSON; a twin sister, Helen BROWN; and two brothers, Charles and Nial DICKINSON.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Pedrick Funeral Home - Keosauqua. Visitation will begin at noon on Sunday, March 17, 2019 with family present to greet friends from 2 - 4:00 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home - Keosauqua. Burial with military rites will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, Iowa. Memorial contributions in Harold's honor may be made to EveryStep Hospice of Mt. Pleasant.
