Douds

Daryl Kriss HOOTMAN, 78, of Douds, Iowa passed away on February 4, 2019 at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua, Iowa. He was born on August 30, 1940 in Selma, Iowa to James R. and Marybelle BAKER HOOTMAN. He graduated from Douds/Leando High School in 1957. Kriss married Cecile Raye DUGGINS on October 4, 1963 in Ottumwa, Iowa. Together Kriss and Raye raised two children, Larry and Cathy.

Kriss worked at Douds Stone for 53 years. He was a 50-year member of the Douds Celestial Lodge #413 A.F. & A.M., a member of the Douds Fire Department for 40 years, serving as Fire Chief from 1965-1977, and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Cemetery Board. Kriss enjoyed watching Westerns and taking scenic drives. Most of all, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Raye HOOTMAN; a son, Larry (Carol) HOOTMAN of Douds, Iowa; a daughter, Cathy (Scott) WATSON of Douds, Iowa; three grandchildren, Breanne (Derek) RANDALL, Spencer WATSON, Nathan WATSON; two great-grandchildren, Ryker and Colson RANDALL; a sister, Mary Alice "Midge" (Bob) LINGE of Washington, Iowa; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Donna Jean COPELAND.

His body has been cremated. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Pedrick Funeral Home - Douds. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 7, 2019 (sic - should be the 6th) with masonic services performed by Douds Celestial Lodge #413 A.F. & A.M. at 5:00 p.m., followed by visitation with family present to greet friends until 7:00 p.m. at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds. Memorial contributions may be made to EveryStep Hospice of Mt. Pleasant or a charity of donor's choice. Online condolences may be directed to www.pedrickfuneralhome.com.
