EMERSON HORATIO (E.H.) "JIGGS" McDOWELL
Williamsburg, IA

Emerson Horatio (E. H.) "Jiggs" McDOWELL, 92, passed away on January 22, 2019 at Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg, Iowa.

He is survived by his children, Roger Gene McDOWELL (Kathie Starr), Fairfield; Roberta Jean ADAM (Joe), Richland; Marla Kay FAGA, Victor; and Michael Dean McDOWELL (Kathy Seaba), Iowa City; and his sisters, Clara Ellen LITTELL and Ramona DINGUS. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Born November 25, 1926, Jiggs received his nickname from the cartoon Jiggs and Maggie. He graduated from Salem High School, Salem,IA and joined the United States Army in 1945. In 1948, he married Evelyn Jean HYDE. They farmed and raised cattle around the Birmingham area until they retired to Texas for the winters. Playing pool, square dancing, reading, swimming, and singing were some of his hobbies. Jiggs was an avidly devoted Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Jiggs was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Jean, his parents, three siblings, a son-in-law, and a granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at a later date as Jiggs donated his body to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department.
