Ankeny, IASarah CARTER RAPP, 67, passed away peacefully the morning of December 24, 2018.
Visitation will be 4 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, January 6th at the Ankeny First United Methodist Church, 206 SW Walnut Street, Ankeny. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 7th also at the church, with a lunch to follow. Friends and family will have the opportunity to share stories of love and laughter with Sarah during the service.
Sarah was born March 8, 1951 in Fairfield, Iowa to Lewis B. and Emma Lou (HESTON) CARTER. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1969 and then from The University of Northern Iowa in May, 1973 with a B.S. in Secondary Education, English Major. Sarah worked for Black Hawk County Department of Human Services in various departments from 1974 to 1988. During that time Sarah married and, in February of 1981, she gave birth to the treasures of her life, Alison and Nathan ESSER.
After a divorce, Sarah and children moved to Ankeny, Iowa. In September, 1988, Sarah married Ted L. RAPP, the true love of her life. Sarah was offered the opportunity to be a Management Analyst for the State of Iowa's Department of Inspections and Appeals. She worked in that capacity until July of 1996 when she transferred to a similar position with the Office of the State Public Defender. Her duties were endless and her work-place friendships spanned the entire state. Sarah retired in the summer of 2010 and later that year started her second and most special career, being Gramma. That was all she ever really wanted to be, and she was extremely good at it, naturally.
Sarah is survived by her husband, Ted; mother Emma Lou CARTER, sister, Christine CARTER, brother Jeff CARTER; children Nathan (Jill) and Alison (Jason), and grandchildren Aubrey, Noah, Kate and Kelsey; Brother-in-law Tim and sister-in-law Polly will also miss this wonderful person. Also left to remember this fine women (sic) are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all those at Medical Oncology and Hematology Associates for their care and concern over these past 18 months. Also, a group hug to the Fairfield class of '69 friends whose visits and cards brightened her days and nights.
Sarah's ashes will be interred next to her father in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa, at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, 5452 NE 22nd St., Des Moines, Iowa 50313 or The Ankeny Miracle Field % Ankeny Community Foundation, 410 W. 1st Street, Ankeny, Iowa 50023.
