Cora Lea WHITTEN was born January 17, 1927 at the family home in Pekin, IA to Ralph and Anna HAYES CAPPS. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school, graduating from Martinsburg High School with the class of 1944. On August 28, 1948 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert WHITTEN. The two were married in Ottumwa, IA and began their life together.

Cora Lea worked at several different jobs before the two of them moved to Montana where they owned and operated a successful grocery store. They had always thought of Iowa as home and would travel back during the summer months. They eventually decided to move back and would call Fairfield home for the remainder of their lives. Cora Lea worked along side her husband as well as waitressing to support the family. Her favorite job was always being the mother to their three daughters; Roberta, Sharon, and Janet.

Cora Lea was always known for her great, and sometimes ornery, sense of humor. She loved to have a good time and you never knew what she was going to say. She enjoyed gardening, taking care of her flowers, keeping a clean house, and was a member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church. She was a skilled cook who had a sweet tooth, which always meant plenty of cookies and other treats for family and friends. She loved time spent with her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Cora Lea was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Robert (d. 2012); one daughter, Roberta MOSINSKI (d. 2007), as well as seven siblings.

Left to share her story are her daughters, Sharon (Don) HARBISON of Brighton, IA and Janet WHITTEN (Chuck Davis) of Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren, Trent (Bridgette) HARBISON, Todd (Nyci) HARBISON, Emily (Jeff) HARRYMAN, Bob (Molly) MOSINSKI, and Mark MOSINSKI; seven great grandchildren, Alex, Tatum, and Rannen HARBISON, Josie and Lane MOSINSKI, and Eileen and Hazel HARRYMAN; one son-in-law, Harold MISINSKI; two brothers-in-law, Jack (Pat) WHITTEN and Harvey CONDON; two sisters-in-law, Regina CAPPS and Dorothy HAHN, as well as many extended family and friends.
