JOHN DeMARSH ANSWERED LAST SUMMONS LAST NIGHT.

John DeMARSH, who for many years was in the coal business in this city, died last night at the home of his niece Mrs. C. E. SAPPENFIELD in Valley Junction.

Mr. DeMARSH has been in very poor health for some time, and after the death of his wife on October 16th, 1917, he went to Valley Junction to make his home with his niece.

For about thirty years, with the exception of five or six years lived in Ottumwa, Mr. DeMARSH has conducted a coal yard in this city and during his many years of residence here he has always been identified with the best interests of the city. He was about 75 years of age and was an old soldied (sic - soldier), having served in the Civil war.

The remains will be brought to this city tomorrow evening at 5:10. The announcements for the funeral services will be given later.

John DeMARSH

John DeMARSH died early Monday morning at the home of his niece, Mrs. C. E. SAPPENFIELD in Valley Junction, were he had made his home since the death of his wife last October.

Mr. DeMARSH was born in Canada, Oct. 7, 1842. For many years he was engaged in the coal business at Perlee and later moved to this city and engaged in the same business.

He had been in failing health for some time but was only confined to his bed for two weeks. His wife preceded him in death just two months and one day.

He was a Civil war veteran, being a member of the 57th New York Vol. Inft.

Funeral services were held at Kerrick's Undertaking aprlors at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon and interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.
