Janice Kay Cummings Smith, 64, of Olympia, Wash., and formerly of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Wash.

The funeral was held Feb. 21 at First United Methodist Church of Olympia. Burial was in Masonic Memorial Park in Tumwater, Wash.

Mrs. Smith was born May 24, 1940, in Iowa City, the daughter of Earl Wendt and Mariruth Lewis Cummings. She married Frank Lorraine Smith June 27, 1964, at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield.

She spent most of her childhood in Fairfield. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1958 and Iowa State Teacher's College, now University of Northern Iowa, in 1962.

She then accepted a teaching position at Olympia High School in Washington.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Damon Smith of New York, N.Y., and Corbin Smith; two grandchildren; and one brother, James R. Cummings of San Antonio, Texas.
