Dorothea SOBASKI dies

Dorothea G. SOBASKI, 77, 200 W. Grimes, died at 6:10 a.m. today at the Jefferson County Hospital where she had been a patient since Dec. 28.

Mass for Mrs. SOBASKI will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, East Pleasant Plain. Prayers for a Christian Wake will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home.

She was born Feb. 21, 1902 near Germanville, the daughter of Joseph and Mary ARNDT KURTZ. She graduated from Pleasant Plain Academy, attended Ottumwa Heights Academy and graduated from Parsons College.

She taught school near Lockridge before her marriage to Joseph SOBASKI Feb. 12, 1925. He died Nov. 22, 1937 (sic - Nov. 28, 1937).

Mrs. SOBASKI owned and operated a farm near East Pleasant Plain, served as a housekeeper for one year at Mother Cabrini Church rectory at Richland and one year at the Holy Family Church rectory in Davenport before moving to Fairfield 21 years ago.

Mrs. SOBASKI was a member of St. Mary Church, Retired Teachers Association and the Altar and Rosary Society.

She is survived by the following children; Josita WITT, Davenport; Mary Terese HORRAS and Joan KEAN, both of Fairfield; Leo SOBASKI, Sedalia, Mo.; Bernard SOBASKI, Iowa City; and Henry SOBASKI, Solon.

Also surviving are 35 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one brother, William KURTZ, Ottumwa. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. SOBASKI made the original pattern which was used by her daughter, Mrs. HORRAS, and Pennie HORRAS when they founded their business, Teddy Bear Gift House, located north of Fairfield.
