Vern Junior VORHIES was born March 13, 1923 to Vern Edgar and Exie MANNING VORHIES. His early years were spent attending country school at Lockridge Victory #8 near Four Corners and also at Glasgow. As so many in his generation did, Vern left school to work on the farm and support his family. This lesson in work ethic and providing for your family was something that would remain with Vern throughout his life. Vern was always working, whether on the family farm, digging graves, or working for Fairfield International.

On November 29, 1942 in Memphis, MO Vern married the love of his life, Joyce HESTON. The two lived in rural Stockport before moving to the home place near Birmingham in 1948. It is here where they raised their family, becoming the loving parents to four children; Robert, Richard, Randy, and Linda. Vern was a gifted mechanic and equipment operator that eventually began working for Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline Company.

He continued to do what he had always done, working hard to provide for his family. While working and traveling he found time to complete his GED. Vern retired in 1983 allowing him and Joyce to travel with the camper. They spent many winters in the southern states including Texas, Arizona, and Florida. Vern was also an avid exhibitor at the Midwest Old Threshers for over 50 years. Vern was always working, rigt up until his body would no longer allow him to be. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family deeply and will be missed by those he leaves behind.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Joyce (d.2001); two children, Robert "Harry" VORHIES and Richard "Diesel" VORHIES and three siblings, Wilma JOHNSON, Winetta HARWOOD, and Albert "Abe" VORHIES.

Left to share his story are his children, Randy (Bonnie) VORHIES of Washington, UT and Linda (Scot) HUMISTON of Columbus Junction, IA; seven grandchildren, Riley (Cassidy) VORHIES, Brandon VORHIES, Angela (Scott) ARNOLD, Jeffery (LeeAnne) VORHIES, Michael (Brandy) VORHIES, Jill TOWNSLEY, and Jason HUMISTON; one brother, Merle (Darlene) VORHIES, as well as several great grandchildren and many extended family and friends.
