Charles "Sonny" E. HOOTMAN, 80, of Fairfield, IA passed away Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield, IA after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield with Rev. Beth Harbaugh officiating. As were Charles' wishes, his body will be cremated following the service with burial to take place in Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com .

Charles "Sonny" Edward HOOTMAN was born January 1, 1938 in Fairfield, IA to Kenneth and Eva Marie BOUGHNER HOOTMAN. He was raised in Fairfield where he attended grade school and high school. On June 30, 1963 he was united in marriage to Sharon Jean "Jeanie" WEAVER (d. 1991). Together they became loving parents to two sons, Joe and Jerry, they later divorced.

Sonny worked for Universal Producing Company in Fairfield, IA as well as Hy-Vee (17yrs) before leaving and moving to Florida in 1988. While in Florida he lived in Orlando & Jacksonville. While in Orlando he worked for Albertson's Grocery before going to work with a longtime friend Don Nelson in the tax services.

He moved to Jacksonville in about 1992 where he resided with his longtime companion JoAnne Chester. He went to work for the IRS for 6 years before retiring in 2000. Sonny spent 25 years in Florida before returning to Fairfield in 2013 to be closer to family. In his early years Sonny was an avid bowler, traveling to tournaments with friends. He and Jeanie also enjoyed taking the family on vacation. Later in life he enjoyed tending to his garden and spending time with family. He will be missed by his family and the many friends he met along the way. He was also a member of the Lodal B.P.O.E. #1992 (Elks).

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Sharon "Jeanie" (1991); three brothers, Richard "Dick" HOOTMAN, Carroll HOOTMAN, and E. Dewayne HOOTMAN; one sister, Beverly MOORE and his companion, JoAnne Chester.

Left to honor his memory are his children, Jerry (Stacie) HOOTMAN of Fairfield, IA, Joseph (Donna) HOOTMAN of Orlando, FL; one sister, Rose Mary RAMBO of Libertyville, IA, as well as five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many nieces & nephews and many extended family and friends.
