Final Rites Monday For Brighton Woman

BRIGHTON, Ia. -- Mrs. Josephine MELINSKI, 88, died this morning at the home of her son, Leo, two miles west of Pleasant Plain. She had been in failing health for the past several years but only in serious condition for one week.

Mrs. MELINSKI was the daughter of Andrew and Mary Ann BORKOSKI, born in Poland, Feb. 17, 1864. She came to the United States when 20 years old and lived in Joliet, Ill., for two years. After her marriage to Andrew MELINSKI, they lived for 13 years, south of Brighton in the Richwood community, later moving to a farm south of Pleasant Plain. She had made her home with her son for three years.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1902 (sic - 1901) and survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mary POLARK, Fairbanks, Ia.; Mrs. Gertrude POLCYN, Joliet, Ill.; three sons, John and Andrew of East Pleasant Plain and Leo, with whom she made her home. There are also two grandchildren.

The body is at the Omar Hoskins funeral home in Brighton and will be taken to Leo's home Saturday. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9:30 at St. Joseph church in East Pleasant Plain, with burial in the nearby cemetery.

Note: Husband Andrew was first married to Mary GELSKI who died in 1888; Josephine is his second wife. She and three sons are buried in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, while husband Andrew is buried with his first wife in St. Mary Cemetery, a/k/a Polishville Cemetery. Josephine's maiden name has been found in various sources as BORKOSKI, or BROISKA, although a more Polish spelling would be BROJSKA.
