LIFE-LONG RESIDENT OF COUNTY DIES
John J. KURTZ lived on same farm practically all his life

John J. KURTZ, 79, prominent farmer in Jefferson county for many years, passed away Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter PECK, who lives near Pleasant Plain. He had made his home with his daughter for the past two years when his health began to fail.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic church at East Pleasant Plain in charge of Rev. Fr. Wetzstein. Burial will be in the cemetery nearby.

Mr. KURTZ was the son of the late Joseph and Bertha KURTZ. He was born near Germanville, June 19, 1863. He lived on the same farm all of his life except the last two years.

He married Miss Emma STORTZ on April 20, 1899. To them were born five children.

Mr. KURTZ is survived by his wife who is an invalid and who is being cared for in the home of Mrs. Verona Jones at Richland. Four daughters also survive. They are: Mrs. Vincent DRISH, Fairfield; Mrs. Don GOWEY, Mrs. Leonard FRITZ, both of near Brighton; and Mrs. PECK with whom he made his home for the past two years. One son, Leon KURTZ, of Germanville, also survives.

Mr. KURTZ is also survived by 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Walter and Joseph KURTZ, both of near Pleasant Plain, and two sisters, Mrs. Harriett KASKA, Fairfield, and Mrs. Bertha SPINHARNY, Los Angeles, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Joe BENDA, and two brothers, Edwin and Martin.

The body was taken to the F. A. Hoskins Funeral home at Brighton.
