Life Sketch of Jacob KASKA

Jacob KASKA, a pioneer settler of Jefferson County, died at his home here Saturday, November 29, at 8 o'clock a.m. following an illness of several months duration. His wife Susan KURTZ KASKA preceded him in death January 13, 1903. Three children died in infancy.

Mr. KASKA was born May 2, 1862 and lived here all his life. He was an industrious and well to do farmer and a loyal and faithful member of St. Joseph's church, being among the first few to contribute to the building of a parish in East Pleasant Plain forseeing the need for the future.

He was always more than willing to give his assistance in anything for the betterment of Christianity.

Realizing his state of health and that time would not permit him to see realized a parish school, he left a bequest should the parish build and maintain a school, that a certain sum be given in his name and memory.

Surviving him are his two daughters, Agnes now Mrs. Chas. HAHN, and Miss Mildred; one sister, Mary KASKA, one brother, Lewis T. KASKA, and four grandchildren.

The funeral was held at St. Joseph's church Monday at 10 a.m. Solemn Requiem high mass was said by the pastor, Father J. H. Courtney, assisted by the Very Reverend J. M. Walsh of Ottumwa and Rev. M. J. Hartigan of Washington. The sermon was preached by Very Reverend J. M. Walsh, an old friend and former pastor, who spoke in part of the many splendid qualities that the deceased had possessed.

Pallbearers were: Joseph P. PACHA, John KASKA, John PACHA, Jake KESSEL, Vincent KASKA and Frank KURTZ.
