February 24, 2005Richard D. Harward, 80, of Cantril, died at 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at Bloomfield Care Center.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with family present from 3-4 p.m. and 6:30-8 p.m.
Memorials to the Cantril Fire Department or the Maple Grove Cemetery can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at PO Box 134, Cantril 52542.
Mr. Harward was born Dec. 26, 1924, in Douds, the son of Lowell "Bud" and Hazel Wiley Harward. He married Marge Pender Aug. 13, 1946 in Troy, Kan.
He lived most of his life in Cantril and graduated from Cantril High School in 1942.
He was employed as a heavy- equipment operator, was self-employed as a carpenter and painter, worked for the town of Cantril, drove a school bus for 35 years and was a longtime volunteer firefighter.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Jim Harward and wife Marsha of Milton; two grandchildren; two brothers, Ross Harward of Santa Maria, Calif., and Russell Harward of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; four sisters, Bernice Gibson of Hanover, Ill., Virginia Layman of Billings, Mont., Jennie Chacey of Ollie and Mary Ann Watson of Green Top, Mo.
Mr. Harward was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ronald Harward; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert and Rex Harward.
